# FAQ

## About Filed

### What is Filed?

Filed is an AI-powered tax preparation platform built for accounting firms. It works behind the scenes within your existing firm workflows: you upload client documents, Filed reads them, extracts structured data, surfaces issues and missing-document flags, and optionally drives data entry directly into your tax software. Clients continue using whatever communication and document-sharing process they already have with your firm. No new tools or logins are introduced for clients.

### Does Filed have a client portal?

No. Filed is built for tax professionals, not clients. Your clients continue using the same processes they already know. Filed does not introduce a client-facing login, portal, or any new client-facing tool. Behind the scenes, your team gets a streamlined workspace that organizes client documents and prepares returns for your tax software without disrupting how clients interact with your firm.

## Using Filed

### What forms and documents does Filed support?

Filed supports individual (1040), partnership (1065, including K-1s), C corporation (1120), S corporation (1120-S), trust and estate (1041), and exempt organization (990) returns, plus their supporting schedules.

Automated data entry into your tax software currently runs for 1040 returns. For the other return types, Filed still reads the documents, extracts the data, and prepares the entries for review; a preparer adds them to the tax software manually. Coverage can vary by tax software, so check with your Filed contact for specifics.

### Can I review and edit AI-generated work?

Yes. Filed shows its work: every entry includes a human-readable audit trail so you can trace values back to their source documents and understand each decision. The system also flags items that need attention, making it straightforward to validate accuracy before transfer to your tax software.

You can edit returns directly in Filed before sending them to your tax software, and make final adjustments in the tax software itself. In-app editing is not available on trial accounts.

### What tax software does Filed integrate with?

## Pricing and billing

### How does Filed's pricing work?

Filed is priced as a flat monthly plan scoped to your firm's client book. Every preparer and reviewer at the firm gets access, and every Filed product is included. We don't charge per seat, per return, or per credit. The specific number is set on a 30-minute discovery call after we look at your client volume together.

### When am I charged?

Your plan is billed monthly at a flat rate. Uploading documents and running AI Tax Prep, AI Review, or AI Tax Planning don't add charges. Admins can view and manage billing in Settings. See [Billing](/reference/workspace-and-settings/billing.md).

## Security and data

### Is my client data secure?

Yes. Filed is US-hosted: client data is processed and stored in the United States. Filed is SOC 2 compliant, encrypts data in transit and at rest, and follows IRS Publication 4557 guidelines. Client data is never used to train Filed's AI models. See the [Trust Center](https://www.filed.com/trust-center) for details.

### Does Filed train its AI on my data?

No. Client data is processed only to provide the services your firm has requested. It is not used to train AI models.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.filed.com/reference/support/frequently-asked-questions.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
