Digits remains the system of record: Filed reads from it when you ask, and only changes it when the connection allows writes. Digits connects through its own sign-in and consent page. You authorize Filed for one company at a time, and Filed names the connection after that company. ## Before you start * A Digits login with access to the company whose books Filed should open. * Approval before enabling **Write**. With writes allowed, Analyst can add sources and transactions to the ledger and upload documents. ## What Filed asks Digits for When you authorize Filed, Digits shows the access Filed is requesting: * **Read ledger data** — financial statements, ledger entries, categories, parties, departments, locations, and projects. * **Sync source data** — create or update sources, and sync transactions, parties, departments, locations, projects, products, and metrics into them. * **Upload documents** — send files to Digits for extraction and reconciliation. Filed does not request bill management. It cannot approve, pay, or void bills in Digits. ## Connect Digits {% stepper %} {% step %} ### Start the connection in Filed Go to **Plugins**, open **Digits** under accounting & ERP, and click **Connect**. Name the connection, and clear **Write** if Filed should only read the books for now. {% endstep %} {% step %} ### Authorize Filed in Digits Filed opens Digits in a small window. Sign in if prompted and approve the access request for the company Filed should open. {% endstep %} {% step %} ### Wait for verification Filed confirms the authorization and reads the company's details. The connection becomes **Active** and is named **Digits (company name)** so your team can see whose books it opens. {% endstep %} {% endstepper %} To work with another company, connect Digits again and authorize that company. Each connection opens exactly one company. ## What Filed can do with Digits Ask **Analyst** about a connected company. It can: * Generate a profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow, trial balance, or AR/AP aging statement for any period * List and query ledger entries, categories, parties, departments, locations, and projects * Summarize activity and explain changes between periods With **Write** enabled, Analyst can also: * Create or update sources, and sync transactions, parties, and other source data into the ledger * Upload a file from the conversation — a bank statement, receipt, or bill — to Digits for extraction and reconciliation Two safeguards apply to writes. Updating sources keeps the sources already on the connection unless you explicitly ask Analyst to replace them, and uploading the same document twice does not create a duplicate. {% hint style="info" %} **Statement questions answer in seconds; entry-by-entry questions can take minutes.** Digits generates statements on demand, but a question like "which vendors did we spend the most with" has to page through every ledger entry for the period. Ask for a statement or a specific date range when you can. {% endhint %} ## Example prompts * "Summarize this quarter's profit and loss from Digits and call out the biggest changes vs last quarter" * "Show the AR aging report from Digits and flag invoices over 60 days" * "Which vendors did we spend the most with in Digits this year?" * "Upload this bank statement to Digits so it can reconcile the transactions" ## Troubleshooting ### Digits shows an error instead of the authorization page Confirm you are signed in to the Digits account that has access to the company. If Digits reports that the Filed app is not available to your organization, contact Filed support. ### The wrong company was connected Remove the connection in Filed, then connect Digits again and authorize the correct company. Check the name on the connection card before relying on it. ### The connection stopped working Digits revokes Filed's access when the Filed app is uninstalled from the company. Open the connection in Filed and choose **Reconnect** to authorize it again. The connection keeps its name and history. ### A document upload is refused Digits accepts uploads up to 100 MB.
